  • Legal Information Institute - Hosted by Cornell University's School of Law, the LII is one of the preeminent legal resources on the Web, including one of the best arrangements of the Code of Federal Regulations and many substantive resources.

  • Findlaw - Findlaw, owned by West Group, is probably the leading free online index of legal materials, with links to off-site resources as well as a great deal of hosted material and tools, including hosted e-mail and the Lawcrawler search engine. The state-specific collections of resources are particularly useful.

  • Verdict Search - Verdict and settlement news and research

  • The Law Review Project - The Coalition of Online Journals provides free full text search of online law journals (check the site for a list of included journals) and an e-mail notification of new articles

  • The OYEZ Project - Hosted by Northwestern University School of Law, Oyez provides transcripts and, in some cases, audio files of leading US Supreme Court cases.

  • LexisONE - A free (requires registration) service of LexisNexis, the online legal research service. Includes free US supreme court (1790-present) and selected federal and state court (since 1996) searching, forms, and other services. Can pay as you go to use premium options including Shepards©.

  • The Law and Policy Institutions Guide (Lpig.org) - A collection of annotated resources ranging from legal research to law school tools and CLE sites.

  • Lawyer Express - A CEOExpress Web site with a customized area for lawyers.

  • AcqWeb - AcqWeb, created and maintained since 1994, is hosted by Appalachian State University. AcqWeb is an outstanding collection of information about legal publishers.

  • Virtual Law Library - The Virtual Law Library is hosted by the University of Indiana's School of Law and can be searched by keyword or browsed by legal subject.

BUSINESS AND REFERENCE RESOURCES
  • Search Systems - Pac-Info directory of public records sources on the Internet.

  • Refdesk.com - A meta site of reference tools and resources.

  • Librarian's Internet Index - Hosted by the Berkeley Digital Library SUNsite, a thorough index of useful resources, all evaluated by LII staff.

  • Hoovers' Online - Information and news on businesses large and small, including corporate affiliations and financials. This site has both free information and a subscriber level.

  • Big Charts - This site pulls together news, industry performance, market summaries, current and historic stock quotes, and "state of the market" reports.

  • Office.com's Business InfoCenter - Office.com Business Information Center is a pay per use site offering premium databases at a flat per document cost (some of the databases charge a flat fee to search as well) including: Business & Company Information; Patents & Tradenames; Medicine; People & Biographies; Science & Technology; News; and Social Science, Government & Education.

  • Findarticles.com - Hosted by the Gale Group, a keyword searchable database of recent articles and newswires.
